Regular readers will know that we love our dividends at Simply Wall St, which is why it's exciting to see eXp World Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:EXPI) is about to trade ex-dividend in the next four days. Typically, the ex-dividend date is one business day before the record date which is the date on which a company determines the shareholders eligible to receive a dividend. The ex-dividend date is important because any transaction on a stock needs to have been settled before the record date in order to be eligible for a dividend. Meaning, you will need to purchase eXp World Holdings' shares before the 10th of May to receive the dividend, which will be paid on the 27th of May.
The company's upcoming dividend is US$0.05 a share, following on from the last 12 months, when the company distributed a total of US$0.20 per share to shareholders. Looking at the last 12 months of distributions, eXp World Holdings has a trailing yield of approximately 1.7% on its current stock price of US$11.62. We love seeing companies pay a dividend, but it's also important to be sure that laying the golden eggs isn't going to kill our golden goose! So we need to investigate whether eXp World Holdings can afford its dividend, and if the dividend could grow.
